Savita aspired to become a doctor but due to the backward thinking of society, she had to choose a different path and ended up becoming a social worker. She works in every field of women empowerment and welfare.

Savita Gupta has been running her NGO called ‘Prasa Anusandhan Sansthan’ since 2002. She is also into social research work under ‘Divya Sanskar Research and Foundation’ since 2016.

Savita was born in Beawar, Ajmer. Then she shifted to Udaipur because of her father’s transfer and from there she completed all her education. In her childhood, she was a very submissive and nervous type of a girl but she was good at studies and she started writing very early. Her first work was published in the magazine ‘PARAG’ when she was in the 5th standard.

After completing her P.G, Savita joined an NGO where she worked with tribal women and from there her desire towards social work became stronger. Hence, in 2002, she came up with her own NGO, working on the overall status of women in general. She focussed on their family and financial conditions, health and education, rights, skill development and empowerment. Besides this, she started working on children and women who were imprisoned.

Savita says that she had to face a lot of difficulties in this field as a woman does not want to help herself because of the fear of her family. Secondly, women in rural and tribal areas tend to follow the wrong traditions blindly, which are not even in their interest. So it was very difficult for her to convince such women and teach them the lesson of equality. Yet with her steadfastness, she continued to advance in every field of women welfare.

Savita’s NGO works closely with the State Government, Central Government and National and State Women Commission as a Women’s Safety and Advice Center.

According to Savita, education helps us in understanding life better and helps us improve and develop our understanding towards things in a better way. She feels it is important to take education to decide in which field you want to pursue your career. And when you start working, then your experiences help you to grow and move ahead in life.

Savita considers Yogesh Kothari and other school teachers as her role models as because of them, her confidence had been greatly boosted and they helped her in moving forward in life. She also draws her inspiration from Ashwinin Paliwal from the NGO-Aastha in the social service sector.

If Savita could go back in time, she would try to become a doctor or do something good in the medical field.

In her spare time, besides reading, Savita is fond of writing poems which are also broadcast on All India Radio.

Savita says that it is very important to be sensitive and compassionate to get into the social sector. Start working on whatever issue you want to work on, funds will automatically be channeled towards you.
